Event Planning Tips and Tricks

Weddings
Everyone will give you advice on how to do your wedding. Here's my advice as an Event Planner. Sit down with your fiance and decide what is most important to both of you for the ceremony and the reception. Make sure you handle those particulars yourself. Then decide what you don't mind delegating to either family. Ask them if they want to participate. If so, let them. Give them guidelines and then let them go with it. Too many people try to either control everything or let everything be done for them. I find that the couple needs to have control around the things that they care about and needs to relinquish some control on areas that they don't.

Another tip I would give is to be open to compromise. There is always more than one way to do something. If his family wants an open bar but your family doesn't, go the middle ground. Have an open bar for the first hour, or let his family provide wine at each table for during the meal. Make it work.

These tips go for working with an Event Planner as well. Just because you hire an Event Planner doesn't mean you are not involved with the planning. An Event Planner helps guide couples through the process, stay within their budget and give advice. If you need a Wedding Planner, please call Julie at Preston Events.

Planning a Dinner Party
Dinner parties are great fun to plan. You can pick a theme or just get a group together to cook a meal. Whether you invite a few close friends or neighbors, it's the special details that make the evening. I recommend choosing different wines to be tasted with the courses. If you don't have time to do everything, invite everyone to bring an appetizer to share and ask a couple people to help with the meal part. However, if you want to sit back and relax and just enjoy an evening with friends, call Julie Preston and she'll put together a Dinner Party with great food, fun and within a reasonable budget.

Children's Birthday Parties
Children's parties are so much fun to plan. However, they can also be difficult with the pressure to make your child's party more fantastic than the rest. I believe that parties should be simple and filled with lots of age appropriate activities. One thing I do is to pick a theme and use the theme throughout the party. Then I make sure that I have enough parents to help with games, passing out cake and goodies bags, etc.

I go to my local library to pick up some party books with ideas. One or two ideas goes a long way. I also go to a craft store such as A.C. Moore and see what craft ideas they have. These are usually in kits and are inexpensive to do. Each child makes something and takes it home.

When you plan an at home party keep these simple suggestions in mind. Then again, if you'd like to just sit back and relax, call Julie at Preston Events and I'll do the whole party for you!
